Sir, - In the wake of the Haughey trial fiasco and forgotten Ansbacher affair, should our Government and judiciary simply admit they have no intention whatsoever of punishing those who stole from the law-abiding citizens of Ireland?
In addition to adding some refreshing honesty to proceedings, this would save the taxpayer the expense of these endless, pointless tribunals. Although the legal profession might be slightly worse off, I am sure there are any number of well-paid posts in various European Community quangos for them to "retire" to. - Yours, etc.,
Tom Farrell, Norseman Place, Dublin 7.
