Sir, - David Ross (August 5th), asserted that this State was letting slip our chance of European funding for the development of wave power, of which we have a superabundance, for production of energy. If this is true, it is a disgrace. For years the Maritime Institute has urged our Government to move in this matter, while watching admiringly the pioneer efforts of Queen's University (which, after all, is Irish).
Your correspondent supposed there was a non-existent government department that should be responsible for securing European funds before it is too late. Should this responsibility not belong to our admirable Marine Institute? And should not the public be kept, completely without prevarication, aware of what efforts are being made to harness wave power for the use of our economy? - Yours, etc.,
John de Courcy Ireland,
Honorary Research Officer,
