Madam, – The reason all the “guys” play rugby (Pat Burke Walsh, May 1st) is that all the “lads” play soccer and the “men” play GAA.

All the “fellows” I know are in college. – Yours, etc,

Madam, – With reference to Pat Burke Walsh’s letter bemoaning the use of the term “guys” by rugby players, supporters, commentators and officials, I would suggest that the difficulty here is his support of the wrong provincial team, namely Leinster.

If, as he says, he has an interest in taking up the game, then I would advise him to consider a move to Munster. There he will find that players and supporters alike (even the ladies) are referred to as “lads”.

As for the international team, I can assure him that I expect the term “guys” to be dropped by the likely incoming coach as I do not believe it exists in Declan Kidney’s vocabulary. One hopes the media will follow suit. – Yours, etc,
