Sir, - I was visiting your beautiful country on business recently and I noticed that Ireland's national postal service still uses the same post boxes that were in use when all Ireland was under the British regime. This took me back, as I have read your history and I know what the Irish nation has had to go through to get its freedom. Being Norwegian, I can identify with being occupied by a hostile country.

I was amazed to see that your postal service has simply Just painted over the boxes in green paint, but left the symbols of British royal crests underneath. I can't understand why they are not proud enough to have the symbols of Ireland put on your national postboxes, such as the harp.

I know from my business contacts that Ireland is a modern republic what rules itself and bows to nobody. And considering the fact that your country was born in your GPO in 1916 I did think that your country would have had the patriotism to have removed the remnants of oppression from your country by now.

I also know, from my business contacts, that Ireland's Government has lots of extra spending cash available to it this year. I don't see why your Minister for Communications can't organise a national competition for an Irish designed postbox that could be made in Ireland and could feature the national symbols of Ireland, instead of foreign ones. - Yours, etc.,
