Madam, – Your report (Home News, September 8th) highlighted anecdotal evidence that costs can be a barrier to people visiting a GP. The report did not, however, highlight Samaritans’ experience that many GPs do support patients and their families at no cost. It is vital that people in distress are helped quickly and safely and GPs play a key role in doing that. Samaritans appreciate the critical job GPs do in reducing suicide in Ireland. – Yours, etc,
