Sir, - Hubert J. Duffy (December 6th) suggests that for women to gain the same membership rights as men they should be forced to play from the same tees and off the same handicap system as men. This is nonsense. Membership is about voting rights and having a say in the direction of your club.
Tennis clubs have equal membership rights, but women members aren't forced to compete in men's competitions. There is no reason (other than old-fashioned prejudice) for golf clubs to be any different. - Yours, etc.,
