Madam, – “The outdoors is becoming an increasingly alien experience for Irish children” (Front page, February 24th). This finding from a Heritage Council- commissioned study makes for sad reading when an answer is on our doorstep. We in An Óige have provided a chain of hostels around Ireland for 80 years at little expense where young people can access the country. Hostelling and walking help young people fight obesity, learn life skills, engage in eco activities and meet young people from all over the world. There is an alternative healthy and rewarding life beyond TV and PlayStations. – Yours, etc,
