God in the EU Constitution

Madam, - I don't know whether to feel sorry for David O'Callaghan (July 17th) or simply be in awe of his ignorance

Madam, - I don't know whether to feel sorry for David O'Callaghan (July 17th) or simply be in awe of his ignorance. Mr O'Callaghan claims that the values of peace, human dignity, justice and solidarity "are rarely apparent in Christian scripture". He reminds me of a book critic who reviews a book he has not read.

For passages on peace and human dignity, Mr O'Callaghan should look no further than Galatians 5:22-23, Ephesians 2:14, Matthew 5:9 and Matthew 5:44. References to justice can be found in Proverbs 21:3, Colossians 4:1 and Isaiah 56:1. Finally, references to solidarity can be found in 1 Corinthians 12:26-27, 13:5 and again in Matthew 6:33 - to name but just a few examples.

I have no doubt there is a strong argument for leaving God out of the EU Constitution, but it is quite unacceptable for people to comment on something they know absolutely nothing about, and to use that commentary to buttress an argument. - Yours, etc.,
