Sir, - Declan O'Brien (June 12th) rightly points to the fact, adequately testified to by our own history, that "hunger results from an inequitable distribution of food around the globe". Nothing profound, fresh or startling in that.
He concludes his paragraph, however, with the claim: "Modern agriculture, including the use of GM crops, is the only way forward."
Am I misinformed, or is not the proposed GM programme driven by an attempt to further concentrate ownership and control in fewer and more technocratic hands?
Have I lost the plot again, or is there an inherent contradiction here? - Yours, etc.,
