Sir, - Apparently there is to be no new gardening programme on RTE television this summer - an astonishing omission, considering all the people who are on the lookout for new ideas and improved cultivation techniques.
Pick of the Classics, one of the most enjoyable Sunday night programmes on RTE radio is about to be discontinued; and a friend who is deaf has asked me to inquire why RTE does not subtitle more of its television programmes, to the point that she is compelled to watch BBC and miss local events. This lady has given her life's energy to this country as a teacher. She, and many ageing people who are hard of hearing, deserve better.-Yours, etc., Maria Buckley,
