Sir, I support any person in his/ her struggle for a decent wage and terms and conditions of employment, but to pick on the Tour de France seems to me to be picking on a once-in-a-lifetime wage earner for Ireland. I watch Le Tour every year on television in Australia and I will be very proud to see the tour in Cork.
Cycling has been a great sport in Ireland and its fans deserve better from the Garda. There are far more effective ways of getting sympathetic support from the public. Why not withdraw co-operation in driving/minding politicians? Let's keep the politicians out of sport! - Yours, etc., R. Hamilton,
