Sir, - I find it hard to believe that with six weeks to go to the new millennium, the Garda has just implemented its new computer system. It is my understanding that the old system is not year-2000 compliant.
Companies were advised by the government to have Y2K compliant systems operational by July 1999 at the very latest to allow proper testing. Six weeks appears precious little time to fully implement and test any new system, let alone one of the scale and importance required by the Garda. It would appear that current negotiations with the GRA may be the least of the Government's worries. - Yours, etc.,
