Sir, - I refer to Michael McGuire's reply to Tom Stopford and his Irishman's Diary. A number of years ago, I was given a little tour of San Francisco by a native of that city. This person also showed me a bar, which I recall to be the Buena Vista, and she claimed that Irish Coffee was first concocted there.

I was obviously shocked; however, I suggested that we try one all the same. On entering, I noticed a bronze plaque stating something like "The first bar in the US to serve Irish Coffee." It also gave credit to the fact that the drink originated at Shannon Airport. - Yours, etc,
