Sir, Tom Stopford (Irishman's Diary, September 6th) states "As we all know, it (Gaelic [Irish?] Coffee) first appeared at a catering college in Shannon.
Well, we don't all know it. I thought that it was first made in the transit lounge in Shannon' Airport, but there are many differing versions of how it originated.
On a tour of San Francisco, I was told by our tour guide that "over here on our right is the Buena Vista bar, where the world famous Irish Coffee was invented". I said nothing. Yours, etc., Foylesprings Derry, BT48 0AQ.
