Madam, – My experience in the 1980s as a former civil servant assisting ministers with the passage of legislation through both Houses of the Oireachtas was that Senators were generally more diligent and professional in their scrutiny of Bills than members of the Lower House.
For that reason, I would favour reform of the Seanad to realise its full potential on behalf of the people, instead of Mr Kenny’s dubious proposal to abolish it. – Yours, etc,
