Madam, - I read with regret your front-page report on Monday regarding the possible break-up and sale of the ESB.
Firstly, this probably explains the recent price increases. Secondly, the so-called "liberalisation" of the market has led to huge price increases in electricity to the consumer (especially in South America). Liberalisation is fine if consumers have the choice to walk away, but electricity is an essential service. Is selling essential services to private profiteers a wise move? I think not.
If the Government spin-doctors are putting this out to see what reaction they get, then Irish people should let them know now that they won't be taken down that path. The unions have a leading role to play on this issue. Are they going to stand idly by and let the FF/PD coalition sell another State asset to pay for their give-away before the next election? - Yours, etc.,
