From pillar to post

Madam, – Ranelagh resident Dorothy Rudd asks where she might post her mail (October 8th)

Madam, – Ranelagh resident Dorothy Rudd asks where she might post her mail (October 8th). Her nearest postbox is just around the corner on Albany Road. This is just one of 11 postboxes located within a 1km radius of Ranelagh Post Office.

We often relocate pillar boxes to accommodate customers, new pedestrian routes, traffic flow or new developments. For example the pillar box at the Sandford Road/Marlborough Road junction is currently being moved a short distance to enable our postman to pull in and clear the box at 5.30pm without disrupting other drivers or losing critical collection time in the rush-hour traffic.

Where the number of items posted at one location is low, it often makes sense to replace two smaller boxes with one larger one at a location which has higher footfall and better accessibility. This also improves quality of service and cost efficiency. Why post? It’s powerful, it’s reliable, it’s accessible and it’s value for money. – Yours, etc,
