Sir, - In the recent past I have had occasion to read Breda O'Brien's weekly Saturday column. May I congratulate her on her thoughtful, incisive and admirably balanced writing. The Irish Times also is to be commended for having the courage to publish material outside the currency of received wisdom and line-of-least-resistance thinking, which, all too commonly, is lazily presented as pluralism and tolerance.
It is, indeed, a breath of fresh air - a vital contribution to social commentary and self-examination at a time when we need to hear, perhaps, what we don't want to hear. - Yours, etc.,
