Madam, - "Dublin City Council is considering the introduction of 'free' bicycles in the city centre in an attempt to lessen the daily inner-city gridlock" (The Irish Times, December 29th).
Well, you can bet your bottom dollar that a sizeable proportion of these bikes will end up in the Tolka, the Dodder, the Liffey and the canals. And when the council is compelled to retrieve these discarded fractured vehicles from the riverbeds, what will become of them? Perhaps they will be recycled. - Yours, etc,
PAUL DELANEY, Beacon Hill, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
