Madam, - "Our native woodlands are havens of peace and tranquillity, fertile sanctuaries for flora and wildlife and in a larger sense essential to our environment and economic well-being. You are invited to participate in The People's Millennium Forests project by visiting the forests and taking part in other related activities."

Eight years ago every household in the country received a letter from Séamus Brennan TD, the chairman of the National Millennium Committee, with the above quote included. Some 1.2 million trees were planted for every household in the country at the time to celebrate the millennium. Coillte was part of this "visionary undertaking". People were invited to visit their trees.

How many of these trees were planted in the Coillte forest at Rath Lugh in Lismullin, Co Meath? If people visit the area this National Tree Week will they find that their tree is one of those demolished by the NRA to prepare for the M3 rattling and rushing by one of Tara's promontory forts? - Yours, etc,

Dr MUIREANN
