Sir, – The passing of George Kimball on Wednesday last, represents not just a great loss to the world of sports journalism, but indeed to the anti-war movement that he supported with such fervour over the years.
His commentaries on the world of pugilism were never anything less than as absorbing and as confrontational as the numerous fights he described throughout his career. And his musings on baseball were as enduring as America’s national pastime has ever been. I am sure a great many people, not just in Ireland, but around the world, will miss his insight and his often humorous take on all things that epitomised the American sporting way of life. – Yours, etc,
