FARE CLUE

Sir, On March 1st a single ticket from Drogheda to Dun Laoghaire cost £9.00

Sir, On March 1st a single ticket from Drogheda to Dun Laoghaire cost £9.00. On March 22nd a single ticket from Balbriggan to Dun Laoghaire cost £2.25. The first journey is a distance of 38.5 miles and the second 29 miles.

The question clearly is why is there such an enormous discrepancy in the fares? An increase of 33 per cent in miles and an increase of 300 per cent in fare!

Is a clue to the answer to be found in the fact that Balbriggan is in Co Dublin (now called Fingal) whereas Drogheda is not? Yours, etc., Birdhill, Drumconrath, Co Meath.
