Sir, Regarding Declan O'Brien's use of the hackneyed adage "When in Rome do as the Romans do" regarding the controversial changes in Carl ow Cathedral (December 13th): culturally, it seems Carlow is not such a "far cry" from Rome as Mr O'Brien thinks. The strength of the opposition to "modernisation" changes to the beautiful interior of Carlow Cathedral is surely a good indication of the appreciation of church art among Carlow people.
On a lighter note, in the words, of Lewis Carroll, I wish all those involved in "reeling and writhing" in and to The Irish Times, a very happy season! - Yours etc,
Ennistymon, Co Clare.
