Sir, - The continued drop in Junior Cert Irish grades, particularly over the past two years, will surely bring renewed calls from the language police for additional millions to be thrown in their direction, or at the very least the provision of another Irish language TV station.
The unpalatable fact that we Irish are of late a culturally secure, English-speaking nation in the process of rapidly ejecting our post-colonial hang-ups will cut no ice with the language lobby.
It would appear however, that the uncomplicated minds of our children have the hypocrisy well and truly sussed. - Yours, etc.,
Niall Ginty, Howth Road, Dublin 5.
