Sir, - The new Limerick racetrack opened on Sunday October 14th at Greenmount. The entire complex is a credit to the vision of those who planned it. About 18,000 people paid at the turnstiles to celebrate and congratulate the people involved. But RT╔ on Sunday evening and the Dublin papers barely referred to it.
If a stabbing had occurred in Limerick on the same afternoon it would have been a lead item on news bulletins. Monday's Dublin papers would have given it front-page coverage.
Good news is not news. A Limerick achievement is not news. A Limerick stabbing is big news. What a strange society we live in. - Yours, etc.,
