Sir, - It was with absolute horror that I read (The Irish Times, October 2nd) that Bewleys Cafe in Grafton Street is to receive the now compulsory facelift.
Elements of the plan seem acceptable, but the changes proposed for the top-floor museum are vile. As a regular customer of the museum I see it as a haven for the coffee-loving newspaper reader - quiet, cultured and atmospheric. This oasis is to be transformed into a "youth" area with associated technology!
Blasphemy! Shame! I say: let the cyber cafes cater for these youthful computer nerds. Leave this space for the serious coffee drinker. - Yours, etc.,
North Strand, Dublin 3.
