Sir, - With reference to Damien O Tuama's plea (December 22nd) for better treatment for cyclists in Dublin, might I propose that companies look at the idea of purchasing a few (tax deductible) executive bicycles so that their staff can make the all-important "short-hop" sales call around the city. If time is money to these people, surely they won't waste it sitting in cars for long periods. I firmly believe that this would make an impact on traffic volume.
There'll be the usual whining about not being able to carry documents on a bike, but I do it. I carry up to 1,000 brochures in a panier bag and deliver them to hotels and B&Bs all over the city centre. I simply couldn't do it by car. It's too slow. - Yours, etc.,
