Madam, – Stephen Childs (December 29th) has, perhaps inadvertently, put his finger on the problem when he wrote, “I refuse to believe . . .”
It is a matter of personal belief and the two views of the “unborn” are irreconcilable. The difficulty for legislators is to provide a legal framework for both. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Desmond FitzGerald (December 28th) writes of a woman’s right to choose an abortion “for whatever reason”.
Speaking of the “pro-life brigade” he states that there is no reason why a woman having an abortion, who is not you or your partner, should impact on the life of a member of that “brigade”.
So, logically, Desmond FitzGerald would seem to propose that, for example, where occurrences of murder, torture and rape occur in the Congo or elsewhere, such events should not impact on the lives of people in Ireland: no matter how strongly we disagree with actions, so long as they do not impinge on us, we should ignore them. – Yours, etc,
