Sir, - Let me add my voice to the chorus of adulation and accolade to our, as ever, insular Government on its implementation of the European Car Free Day.
As usual, the streets of Dublin were jammed to capacity and beyond. Our response to all issues which in any way affect the betterment of our environment for anything longer than one term of Government office remains an embarrassment. I did not observe any variation or diminution in the usual irate, aggressive reaction of drivers as they fervently tried to honk the determined cyclist off the road - with or without cycle paths. Can we not at least pretend to be concerned? Even for the most critical pragmatist, one would imagine that our traffic deadlock calls for responsible action at Government and individual level. - Yours, etc.,
Carmel O'Reilly, Harolds Cross, Dublin 6.
