Sir, - I heartily concur with John Waters's tirade against those whom he chooses to call "Eurobullies", an apt name for those arrogant Eurocrats who seem to think that they are more important than all other living creatures in this city by the way that they proceed, at breakneck pace, through the traffic escorted by Garda squad cars and outriders.
A couple of weeks ago, I witnessed the ultimate shamelessness of these people, only a stone's throw from The Irish Times offices. An ambulance, siren blaring, was making its way down Pearse Street, near the Garda station. Traffic on D'Olier Street, although on a green light, had stopped to let the ambulance through. Next instant, the usual cacophony heralded the arrival of a Europosse, racing over O'Connell Bridge with outriders in front. It approached the junction which the ambulance was still trying to cross. Stalemate? Not a bit of it!
The ambulance - the ambulance - had to wait whilst these nerds hastened towards the Castle. I just hope someone wasn't bleeding to death somewhere. Where have our priorities gone?
