Sir, – My grand-daughter, aged 11, with her father, was waiting seven hours for an X-ray in the Children’s Hospital, Crumlin on Saturday. She had three swollen fingers, one broken. It was a sports injury, but not considered “serious”. When the new children’s hospital is built in the Mater grounds, how long will a child have to wait? It will cover a wider area; will its emergency department have a different system? Unfortunately few families can afford the private emergency room treatment in the Beacon and Blackrock Clinic. – Yours, etc,
