Madam, - "Good restaurants are not as plentiful as in other counties," writes Tom Doorley (Magazine, July 2nd) lazily dismissing Donegal by including just one well-known hotel.
In May, on behalf of Tourism Ireland, I took a group of French journalists on a tour of north Donegal. We ate in the Bridge Bar Seafood Restaurant in Ramelton and in the Lemon Tree in Letterkenny. Besides the scenery, all they could talk about was the food and how good it was. A couple of them will be writing about Donegal's cuisine, not only it's spectacular landscape.
Last month I had some French walkers in one of our groups and we spent a few days in Glencolmcille in south Donegal where we ate in An Chistin. The food was so good that the French visitors wanted to meet the chef. A young man duly appeared; when asked where he had learned to cook in such a brilliant fashion he did not reply Paris but - Killybegs! Poor Mr Doorley; maybe his next fleeting visit may be more successful. - Yours, etc,
