Sir, - Until recently, anyone wishing to dispose of waste engine oil could do so at the Ballyogan Public Dump in a tank provided for that purpose. This facility has now been ended.
Instead, people are told to take their waste oil to a collection point at Dunnes Stores car park in Cornelscourt at a specific time on Saturdays. Do the powers that be in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council think that people will go to shopping centre car park on the busiest day of the week Cornelscourt to dispose of their waste oil?
At a time when we are constantly being told of the damage that is done to our environment through careless and thoughtless actions, surely the council must realise that this is most unsatisfactory. The result of this change will inevitably be the dumping of waste oil on shores and other open places. - Yours, etc.,
Alan Flett, Kilgobbin Heights, Stepaside Co Dublin.
