Sir, - There is concern that the proposed Dublin tram will increase congestion in the city. Perhaps a solution is for the cars themselves to be carried on the trams. Customers alight at the place of works or recreation and are collected again when ready; in the meantime, the private cars wait at some convenient park at the terminus.
If the scheme is over-subscribed, then it could be limited to politicians and to "D" and "E" band VHI contributors. Reduction in pollution and congestion from private cars will result, and encouragement is given for a prestigious and safe form of travel in the city. - Yours, etc.,
Wansbeck Road South, Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE3 3PE.
