Dublin's Traffic

Sir, - I refer to the article about taking up part of the lawn at Leinster House to facilitate car-parking (July 9th)

Sir, - I refer to the article about taking up part of the lawn at Leinster House to facilitate car-parking (July 9th). This seems like an ideal opportunity for the many "residents" of that fine House to show some leadership and take to public transport. Your leader writer referred to the crisis of Dublin's traffic and specifically to Mr John Bruton who, at a Fine Gael-sponsored traffic forum recently, "spoke of the need for courageous leadership". Now Mr. Bruton and his many colleagues have the opportunity to show this "courageous leadership" of which he spoke, to tell the OPW not to lift the lawn, and switch to the bus/DART/bicycle.

But even as I write, I know that the call for leadership is in vain. The lawn will be destroyed, the TDs et al will drive in and they will continue to tell us that when it comes to the problem of Dublin's traffic, it is a case of "it's them, not us". Leadership! - Yours, etc., T. Gerard Bennett,

Knocklyon, Dublin 16.
