Sir, - Harry Latham (January 20th) suggests that the Church of Ireland authorities should offer one or other of Dublin's two cathedrals to the Roman Catholic Church. My understanding is that such an offer was made in 1922 and was rejected by the RC hierarchy. In the early 1940s the offer was again made and again rejected - this time by Archbishop McQuaid, who is reported to have said: "We will build our own."
How often does one make such an offer and have it rejected: seven times or 70 times seven? - Yours, etc.,
Delgany, Co Wicklow.
