Sir, - As a motorist and a cyclist it pains me each morning to see most cyclists breaking lights, or haphazardly switching lanes without looking or signalling - and all this while listening to a personal stereo which drowns the sound of surrounding traffic. I have had my wing-mirror broken twice by cyclists while stopped at red lights, and they never looked back, just glanced left and right and then sped off straight through the red lights. Those who do stop after damaging a person's car probably own a car themselves and realise the pain and trauma caused when this happens. It seems the rules of the road don't apply to cyclists and then they crib that motorists don't show them respect on the roads. Well, is it any wonder? - Yours, etc.,
Kevin P. Shally, Rowanbyrn, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
