Sir - I hope this time your editorial will spare us the assumption that the alternative to driving to work or school is "trudging".
I, like many others, will simply cycle - a method of commuting I've been using for years. If more people cycled, if more workplaces provided bike sheds and changing facilities, if more roads had cycle lanes, if cycling was safer for children, if more people used public transport, there would be less congestion. There would also be an increase in the health of the nation, as people became fitter and traffic accidents lessened. May I add a plea for motorists to be even more heedful of bicycles in wet weather, as bike brakes do not work so well when wet? - Yours, etc.,
