Madam, - David Geary (February 6th) wants the Government to make alcohol more expensive to curb the serious problem of its abuse. Following his logic, perhaps we can address another serious problem, road deaths, by raising the cost of motor fuel.

I doubt, however, that making us pay more for either liquid will cause consumers to use it any more responsibly. In both cases it is the attitude of irresponsible users which must be changed, not the price tag. - Yours, etc,
