Madam, - In the McCartney/Mills divorce judgment, Mr Justice Bennett dismissed the wife's unfounded allegations of abuse against her husband.
He also said ". . .it is unfair to expect that she should continue to live at the same rate as during the marriage".
What a pity that judges in family law cases in Ireland don't show the same level of sense and balance.
Judges in divorce/separation cases in this country invariably accept the routine false allegations of abuse put forward by well-coached wives and subsequently insulate them against any consequent hardship by making their husbands homeless and plundering their assets.
Gold-diggers are not just a showbiz phenomenon, but exist at all socio-economic levels and are quite prevalent here in Ireland. - Yours, etc,
FRANK McGLYNN, Pineview Grove, Aylesbury, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
