Sir, - I disagree with the Irish Council of People with Disabilities about holding a referendum to outlaw discrimination against disabled people. As the council is aware, the Employment Equality Bill has been declared unconstitutional, so it is up to politicians to resolve the anomaly which exists in law.
As a disabled person I feel it is up to disabled people to be open about their disability at the interview. It is up to employers to take on board what is said.
I feel Mr Mulcahy is implying that disabled people are alienated by politics. Surely Mr Mulcahy should be encouraging disabled people to influence change? It is through involvement in the political system that disabled people can influence change. Yours,
Portmarnock
