A Chara - May I congratulate the TDs who were members of the Public Accounts Committee? While I applaud their tenacity, and indeed their recommendations as published in The Irish Times, I wonder who will end up paying the bank's tax bills. The shareholders that benefited from inflated dividend payments? The individuals who while living locally availed of the non-resident perk?
No, it will be the ordinary bank customers, most of whom were compliant in their payments of the Dirt tax. We can now look forward to massive increases in already inflated bank and mortgage charges, and a decrease in the value of our beleaguered pension funds. - Yours, etc.,
Deaglan De Paor, Droichead Nua, Co Kildare.
