Sir, - The letter from Tom Mythen, Irish Rail's network catering manager, about the provision of menus for celiac sufferers made interesting reading.
I had occasion to travel on the Dublin/Westport train on Friday evening of August 13th. Having previously been informed that full dining facilities would be available, the best they could offer (after queuing for the best part of an hour) was burger (beef or chicken) and chips in paper wrapping along with the usual nondescript sandwiches. If this is what is described as "full dining facilities", I pity those looking for a special menu. - Yours, etc.,
M. Flanagan, Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
