Sir, – I was disappointed to read that a miscellany of additional functions will assigned to the Department of the Taoiseach (Home News, July 13th). This is not administrative reform. It is administrative suffocation. The Department of the Taoiseach should be a slim institution, adopting a detached and strategic perspective on the major issues of public policy. It should, of course, provide leadership and inspiration to other departments, but it should refrain from devouring their functions. – Yours, etc,
