Sir, - It was very humane of this present day society, to commemorate the unfortunate Magdalen women of Ireland, by the unveiling of a plaque, by the President, Mrs Robinson, in St Stephen's Green, on April 20th.
But can one take up the question which has been avoided like, the plague by newspapers, TDs, journalists etc., of the unfortunate women (some girls) who, were executed by hanging for the crime of infanticide. They became pregnant outside of marriage, were cast out of home, village, town and city. Nowhere to turn. No sympathy, only abuse. They were demented women. They were brutally abandoned by society. Does anyone in our tight lipped society know how many women were executed? Is there even one honest person who will speak? - Yours, etc.,
St Brigid's Court, Killester,
