Decentralise to where?

A Chara, - Decentralisation is good, no matter how we get it

A Chara, - Decentralisation is good, no matter how we get it. One only has to look at the mess in which Dublin currently finds itself to appreciate the urgency of moving some of the jobs, and the people attached to them, out of it.

In a muddled sort of way, the present system works. Now that the Minister for Justice has managed to put the Civil Legal Aid board in Cahirciveen, he's hardly likely to be able to transfer whatever other relocatable jewel he may still have in his back pocket to the same location. (What's wrong with Cahirciveen anyway, now that we have the internet, email, fax, telephone, and even, God help us, An Post?)

Thus, even if the same fellows continue on the merry-go-round, the goodies will continue to be distributed around the country, more or less evenly. So even though the random nature of the distribution may upset some, it may be better in the long run than a plan. We in Cork have every confidence that something will come our way in due course! - Is mise,
