Madam, - Your Letters page and financial columns make interesting reading in these turbulent times. However, there is an alarming lack of recognition of Brian Cowen's and Brian Lenihan's speed and decisiveness in taking action on the banking crisis. I say unequivocally to both: Well done.
If they had procrastinated and awaited an EU decision, Ireland Inc would be bankrupt by now. The Wall Street Journal, Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine and President Sarkozy of France have all lauded the actions of the Taoiseach and the Minister for Finance.
Since his election, your newspaper has been less than generous towards Brian Cowen, citing on a number of occasions his lack of leadership. However, on the toughest call of all he has stood tall, steadfast and decisive. - Yours, etc,
EDDIE CORMICAN,
