Sir, - Aine Ni Chonaill refers (August 10th) to "our perfectly natural wish to keep our country for ourselves.."

I should like to point out that, as a full member of the EU, this country guarantees to Italians, Germans, Portuguese, Britons, as well as to citizens of the other member states, the right to live and work here. This right, moreover, is reciprocated on behalf of Irish citizens entering the territory of all other EU states.

I am prompted, therefore, to ask: precisely who or what is meant by the term "ourselves"? - Yours, etc., Thomas Hall,
