Sir, - Your correspondent Gwen Woods (December 5th) has been very lucky in life. All seems to have gone very well for her, including the fact that medical and legal opinion did not require the State to provide abortion "services" that may have terminated her existence if somebody so desired before she had a chance to live her life.
It is time that pro-abortion people debated this issue properly and stopped calling pro-life people "Taliban" and suggesting they are anti-woman. It is also time that women were properly informed of the damage to their health that induced abortion can cause. A recent study listed a distinct connection between abortion and breast cancer, especially for teenage girls. Other studies have provided similar results. The psycho-social stress following abortion has not been debated. It is imperative that anybody contemplating having an abortion should be made aware of the physical and mental problems they will be exposed to following this procedure.
In my opinion the manner in which the legal abortion industry in England and elsewhere functions amounts to ante-natal genocide and is a form of terrorism of the unborn and should be included in the fight against terrorism now taking place.
I commend our Government for their effort in trying to find a reasonable legal situation where women and their babies are cared for properly, and which allows obstetricians and gynaecologists to continue to provide the services that have enabled Ireland to be the safest place for pregnant women. - Yours, etc.,
Sheila Crowley, Gurteenroe, Macroom, Co Cork.
