A chara, - Joe Lalor's suggestion (September 24th) of encouraging the observation of speed limits by use of a metal spike pointing from the steering wheel to the heart of the driver is an excellent example of the kind of lateral thinking required to deal with this problem. Might I also suggest venting the engine exhaust to the interior of the automobile rather than the exterior? While this would do little to amieliorate the substantial contribution that drivers make to COs2] emissions and climate change, it would have the advantage of giving them a first-hand taste of what they inflict on the rest of us. - Yours, etc., Graham Caswell,
